We woke up in the parking lot and while having coffee we noticed people were coming out with shopping bags - this is just around 7 am - wow early shoppers. It's warm and sunny this morning - maybe we will get some good weather now. We hit the road at about 8:30 am excited to get to the falls. Guelph is a big town and it takes forever to get out and onto Hwy 6. We cross the 401- it's 3 lanes each side and divided - hmmm that might be a challenge especially as the summer gets closer and we have to deal with an increase in traffic flow. So far we have had no traffic to deal with.
We get closer to Hamilton and as I am reading the map an exit comes in site for Hwy 8 (which we need) and Main St. So off we go and omg we are driving through downtown Hamilton! Hmmm, maybe not such a good idea, seems like rush hour too. Following the signs I say Dan get in the round about and keep to Main. So he misses the entrance to Main, my fault I think, and so we do a circle back to Main. But this does not seem right - so we get back on the original route and we continue on our way - just another scenic detour. :) lol. Finally we are out of Hamilton and on the right road we think - we are on Hwy 20 and that is what we need. Whew - we made it this far safely.
The area is very much a rural area with farming, ranching, and orchards. Not at all what we expected - hustle and bustle of a city is what we expected. Small towns, neat and tidy along the route. Here's one for the Smiths - Smithville about 40 km west of the Falls. The home of the Poultry Fest taking place on June 28th! It's a very affluent area and growing.
This is the Greenbelt of Ontario.
I forgot to mention that when we were in Wiarton chatting with the volunteer he told us that there were Orchids that were native to Ontario that are not grown anywhere else in the world. We just passed a garden centre advertising Orchids!
And we just passed another Chip Wagon - there are a lot of these - it seems every town has at least one. They are also called Fry Trucks. Enough trivia for one day.
We just crossed what we think was the St. Lawrence River, or maybe a tributary. It is a one lane bridge controlled by a traffic light. I think the sign said St. Lawrence Transportation System. Actually we just found out it was a Hydro Canal.
We are getting closer and we are getting excited for many reasons - one of them to see the Falls and another so we can put down roots for a few days. Omg here it is!
We made it! Now to set up camp and relax a bit while we plan our next adventure!
Cheers - it's 5 o'clock somewhere!
Gidget says this grass feels good under my feet. First time we have had sun, grass and the opportunity to kick back! Tomorrow another page in our adventure.
