Day 42 - Saturday, July 12 - Another Lobster Dinner

So this morning we are ready to go out for the day.  Lunenburg is having a Festival of Crafts today and tomorrow, so off we go to partake in the festivities.  First stop downtown and there are many streets blocked off for a street mall, much like what Merritt used to have on Labout Day Weekend.  Businesses selling off their wares at discounted prices.  We wander through and find a coffee and bake shop.  So with excitement we enter to see if they have a Cinnamon Bun for Dan and guess what we are finally in luck.  His 6 week craving is finally satisfied and the coffee is good to boot.  Success so far today.

Off to the Community Centre to see what the crafters have in store.  It is the ice rink and the place is full with vendors.  There is everything from canned specialities, hand made quilts, jewellry and wood crafts.  Lots to choose from but nothing that will fit into the Moho for the trip.

So we decide to find where they have docked the Bluenose for retrofitting.  She's big, but not as big as I thought she would be.  I just can't imagine living on a vessel that small for an extended period of time.  The sailors and fishermen led a dangerous life style.

Now it's time to get groceries and back to the Moho for lunch.  The neighbours come over when we get back and introduce us to Bob's sister.  She has stopped in for a visit.  Bob told us that they were having some friends over for the night and they wanted us to come for cold lobster.  This way we will know if we prefer hot or cold lobster.  So it's a plan.  Such generous people.

Now that we have eaten we are going out to finish our exploration of the town.  We went to the Lunenburg Academy, but just missed the tour.  This is the oldest running school in the province.  It is currently under renovation and has been declared a historic site as well.  I think the clerk at the info centre told me that it has been operating for 200 years.

I managed to get a picture of the inside through the glass.  Awesome wood detailing.

The town has signed all the historic homes, that are standing, with the name of the original owner.  For example the year that the house was built and for whom.

This is one of the elaborate homes in the town.

A beautiful United Church.

This is a very old stately town.  Back to our campsite and just as we get back, in comes two couples in a 1919 Ford touring car - they were driving around for the weekend and came to visit the camp site.  Cool!

Ok so now time to take Gidget for a walk.  This is the Info Centre and Campground Office - it is an old fortress.

These are the the campsites that are on the bottom level.  Very pretty.

Time to prep for dinner with the neighbours.  This the 5 lb lobster that Bob bought at the fish market at the wharf.

Here is Bob (centre) with his two supervisors, Dan and Henrick!  Bob is taking out all the meat so we can just eat!  Very nice of him doing all the work for us.

Bob's friends are Nicole and Henrick (retired RCMP).  Gidget fell in love with Darlene.

Nice evening with good people, but time for bed.
