Day 43 - Sunday, July 13 - Lighthouse Route

As we say goodbye to the neighbours I remember something interesting.  Dan got his haircut at Digby and the barber's name was Rick Wright - well it seems that Bob went to school with Rick and has just recently travelled to Digby to see him.  Crazy, eh!!  Hope one day we can repay these wonderful people - they are planning a trip to BC in the future, so hopefully we can host them.

As we drive along the Lighthouse Trail, Dan spots yard sales and so we have to find places to pull over.  That is one thing that is missing in Nova Scotia are pull outs or wide spots to pull off the road.  The roads are narrow and the shoulders are very narrow or non-existent.

We are driving along Mahone Bay and it is very scenic.

Here comes another yard sale or actually a small flea market.  Tables are set up right next to a food truck and an ice cream trailer.  The ice cream cone hits the spot - it is Scots Dairy so close to my heart - and I am compelled to try it!  Lots of yard sales or group sales today.  Nice drive along the coast.

Indian Harbour here we come - it is just a few Kms from Peggy's Cove and Halifax.  It is right on the ocean and we are very lucky and are able to have a spot right on the ocean.  It's beautiful and so relaxing.

This is our site - awesome!  Time for a bite to eat and off to explore Peggy's Cove.  As we arrive we see signs and many, many people.  Today is called "Paint Peggy's Cove" and there are artists and tourists every where.  It is very unique though.

There is a Scot playing the bagpipes on the rocks.  There is a huge Scottish influence in Nova Scotia, even more than I thought there would be.  Nova Scotia even has it's own Tartan!

Nice day for this but it is very windy.

The Light House - a life saver for many sailors.  The rocks surrounding the light house are smooth - almost like someone gently sanded them.  Below is the harbour at the cove.

Lots for the artists to capture in their paintings or sculptures.
After we finish exploring we head back to camp.  There is a memorial to Swiss Air 111 and we pull off.

Volunteers from Peggy's Cove were instrumental in rescue and recovery efforts for this tradegy.

We carried on down the road past the camp to see what's happening down that way.

This place invites all in for story telling, it was late when we went by but thought the picture was worth the stop.

Pretty pictures of the shore around our camp. The wind is coming up so it's time to go in and get some supper and retire for the evening.  Weather report for tonight is high winds, so in goes the awning and chairs are stowed away.  Good thing we have leftovers in the fridge - a BBQ would not be possible tonight.
